The arrival of a baby brings with it new responsibilities and learning experiences. Fundación Valle del LiliWe want to accompany you in this process with practical recommendations for the daily care of your baby.
1. Bath time
Bathing should be a calm and safe experience. Keep in mind that this procedure should not exceed 10 minutes.
- Security First: Before you start, make sure you have everything you'll need on hand (neutral soap, towel, clean clothes).
- Constant attention: Never lose sight of the baby or leave him alone in the bathtub.
2. Ear, nose and mouth hygiene
Cleaning these delicate areas requires great gentleness and caution:
- Ears: Clean only the outer part of the ears. Avoid inserting cotton swabs into the ear canal, as this can damage internal structures and impair your baby's hearing.
- Nose: It is essential to keep the nasal passages clear. Remember that babies under 6 months old breathe exclusively through their noses and are unable to breathe through their mouths.
3. Umbilical cord care
The navel healing process is natural and only requires basic cleaning:
- Without accessories: Do not use girdles, buttons, coins, or adhesive tape over your navel. These items can irritate the skin, trap moisture, and cause serious infections.
- Cleaning: Keep the area dry and clean following your pediatrician's instructions.
4. Diaper area and genitals
To prevent irritations and ensure your baby's health, frequent hygiene is key:
- Constant hygiene: Change the diaper as soon as necessary to keep the skin intact and free from moisture.
- Suitable products: Use only products designed for sensitive baby skin when cleaning the genitals.
5. Skin and nails
A newborn's skin is extremely thin and delicate, so it requires special care:
- Hydration: Keep skin clean and moisturized using recommended baby lotions or creams, avoiding adult products that may cause irritation.
- nail trimming: Keep your baby's nails short to prevent them from accidentally injuring their face. Use appropriate tools and preferably do so when the child is calm or asleep.
