Pathology
What does this specialty do?
The Pathology Department is dedicated to the study of anatomical and physiological alterations caused by benign and malignant diseases through the analysis of tissues, organs, and body fluids. It offers initial diagnoses and second opinions in general, specialized, and molecular pathology, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometry. To achieve this, it utilizes advanced techniques that guarantee reliable and timely results.
Diseases it treats
The Pathology service fulfills an exclusively diagnostic role. Through the analysis of biological samples, it supports the identification of diseases of various kinds, contributing to early diagnosis, confirmation of pathologies, monitoring of treatments, and the issuance of second medical opinions. Its specialized approach is key to clinical accuracy, without constituting an area of direct treatment.
Procedures and treatments
Biopsies, cytology samples, and fine-needle aspirations are processed, with the option of rapid evaluation in the operating room or during intraoperative procedures. Specialized techniques such as histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, molecular markers, PCR, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry are employed. The facility also has post-mortem rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology for clinical and sanitary autopsies.
The service is fully automated, guaranteeing traceability and immediate migration of reports to the institutional system, accessible in real time to treating physicians.
