Procedures and treatments

The Neurophysiology Service, part of the Neurology Unit, performs specialized diagnostic studies to evaluate the functioning of the nervous system. These include:

• Electroencephalogram (EEG) y video telemetryessential for the diagnosis and monitoring of epilepsy.
• Polysomnography, comprehensive study for the evaluation of sleep disorders.
• Electromyography (EMG) y neuroconduction, which allow for the assessment of peripheral nerves and muscles.
• Sensory evoked potentials (somatosensory and visual) to analyze the integrity of the sensory pathways.

Exam preparation

• EEGClean, dry hair. In children, this may require partial sleep deprivation the night before.
• EMG and nerve conduction: regular hygiene; avoid creams, oils and talc on the skin.
