What does this specialty do?
The Thoracic Surgery service addresses pathologies of the lungs, chest wall, esophagus, and trachea, offering highly complex surgical interventions with advanced technology. We are pioneers in the lung transplant program in southwestern Colombia and in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Our comprehensive approach combines conventional and minimally invasive procedures, guaranteeing excellent care for adult and pediatric patients under the highest standards of quality and safety.
Diseases it treats
- Oncological diseases such as lung, esophageal, tracheal and chest wall cancer.
- Benign lung and pleural pathologies, including tuberculosis, pleural effusions, and infections.
- Chest wall trauma.
- Surgical treatment of myasthenia gravis.
Early detection and specialized management allow for better clinical outcomes and a higher quality of life for patients.
Procedures and treatments
- Thoracoscopic procedures are performed, using minimal incisions and a single port, for pulmonary and mediastinal resections.
- Chest wall surgeries are performed for congenital, traumatic, or tumorous conditions, with reconstruction options available.
- Thoracic sympathectomy to treat hyperhidrosis, facial blushing, or arrhythmias.
- Minimally invasive pediatric thoracic surgery.

Exam preparation
