What does this specialty do?
Radiation oncology is a medical-surgical specialty that uses high-energy ionizing radiation to treat cancer and some benign conditions. It can be used alone or in combination with surgery, chemotherapy, or other treatments.
Its aim is to deliver precise doses of radiation to the affected area, protecting the surrounding healthy tissue. It is used for curative, palliative, or ablative purposes, and also to relieve symptoms such as pain and inflammation in non-cancer patients.
