What we do:

An endoscopy is a procedure that allows a doctor to see inside your body using an instrument called an endoscope, or viewing tube, which has a tiny camera attached to a long, thin tube. These may be diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

There are many different types of endoscopies, some of the most common are:

  • Upper GI Endoscopy: Study of the esophagus, stomach, and first part of the duodenum
  • Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy: Study of the colon and rectum
  • Nasolaryngoscopy: Study of the upper respiratory tract
  • Bronchoscopy: Study of the respiratory system: bronchi and lungs
  • Cystoscopy: Study of the lower urinary tract

At Fundación Valle del Lili we are nationally recognized for having one of the largest and most modern endoscopy services in Latin America. We have 10 procedure rooms at the main headquarters, 1 room at the Limonar headquarters, and 2 rooms at the Estación headquarters, with a group of 42 specialist doctors with high academic and research commitment, a highly trained healthcare and administrative staff, along with state-of-the-art technology and adequate physical infrastructure for the care of our patients.

In addition, we have endobronchial ultrasound plus EBUS fine needle aspiration (unique in Cali), a specialized minimally invasive procedure designed to evaluate the airway and take samples beyond the tracheobronchial wall, for the analysis and staging of lung cancer, diagnosis of other lung masses or lesions and therapeutic bronchoscopy.

Furthermore, In addition, we work every day to improve and streamline processes, with a focus on compliance with best practices in patient safety (safe use of technology, providing quality care procedures, safe use of sedation).

The urea breath test is a non-invasive method; it is a rapid method for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that can produce mild symptoms and can also be associated with gastric diseases such as ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, chronic gastritis, dysplasia, and gastric cancer.

How do we perform this test?

It is performed through the oral administration of a urea capsule, isotopically labeled with carbon 14, with very minimal risk to health. After 10 minutes, it is exhaled into a tube. If Helicobacter pylori are present, the urea is converted into carbon dioxide, which is excreted in the exhalation and its presence will be analyzed by a detector device. This test helps us to determine whether Helicobacter pylori is present or not.

Advantage:

  • non-invasive method
  • fast
  • accurate
  • safe
  • It has a sensitivity and specificity above 95%.

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.
  • Child population (relative).
  • Acute digestive bleeding.

General considerations:

After an assessment, your treating physician is the one who issues the order to carry out the test and will be in charge of analyzing the result. Before performing the procedure, it is necessary to know your medical history with a clear indication of the procedure. In addition, it is recommended:

  • Do not take any antibiotics for at least 4 weeks before the procedure.
  • Do not take any acid inhibitor medications (Omeprazole, Esomeprazole, lansoprazole, etc.) or suspensions containing: Aluminum hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, Calcium carbonate, and Alginates, for at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
  • In case of suspicion of digestive bleeding, the procedure should be performed after recovery.
  • You must show up 40 minutes prior to the scheduled time, with the order and authorization.
  • You must be fasting 6 hours prior for solids and liquids.
  • You must have one hour of availability.
  • The result will be delivered within 24 hours after the test is performed.
