What is the target population of the service?

The service is addressed to all women with specific and non-specific pathologies having unmet needs regarding the phase of their life cycle they are going through, focusing on promotion and prevention.

The service is in the capacity of attending patients from childhood to old age, trying to ensure health care to women during virtually their whole life, according to the needs they may have.

 


  • The only unit within the country that provides support by critical care gynecologists 24/7.
  • Emergency service 24/7, with two gynecologists and obstetricians permanently available, trained to attend high-risk obstetric patients. Such specialists are continually receiving training.
  • Nursing service trained to provide high-risk obstetric care and critical obstetric care, as well as neonatal intensive care, with a staff in constant training, ensuring technical and non-technical skills for the nursing team.
  • Continuous maternal and fetal monitoring through an innovative system that offers surveillance, intensive care and intermediate care to obstetric patients with high-risk pathologies.
  • Extensive national and international experience in the management of complex maternal and fetal pathologies, being a center of reference.
  • Certified according to current national regulations as an intensive/intermediate care unit.
  • Ongoing certification process as an international center of reference in the management of complex placental pathologies, such as placenta accreta.
  • Availability of advanced hemodynamic and ventilatory support for obstetric patients.
  • 31 beds are available, 6 intended for obstetric care, and all equipped to provide continuous maternal/fetal monitoring.
  • Assistance during obstetric events, ensuring humane care during delivery, newborn assessment by a neonatologist and obstetric analgesia.

The service stands up for maintaining a continuous interaction among our various subspecialties, in order to ensure comprehensive management of the mother and the fetus.

In addition, cutting-edge technology under national and international standards is available for maternal and fetal monitoring, as well as specialized instruments for surgical interventions, if applicable.

  • High-complexity obstetric service: Its main purpose is addressing both maternal and fetal morbidity/mortality, for patients under complex clinical conditions, ensuring healthcare throughout pregnancy and assistance at any obstetric event in Fundación Valle del Lili.
  • Prenatal monitoring service for adolescents: its main purpose is offering specialized and multidisciplinary care to adolescent patients during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum, assuring adequate prenatal and delivery care. Providing humane care during labor in our High-complexity obstetric unit under continuous maternal-fetal monitoring with early obstetric analgesia.
  • Children and adolescent gynecology service: it intends to offer specialized care for girls and young women provided by multidisciplinary teams specially focused on prevention. It offers consultation for adolescents (first gynecological appointment) and checks every six months.
  • Institutional service for Gestational Diabetes: its main purpose is to reduce maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality associated with gestational diabetes.
  • Pregnancy management service in cases of malformed fetus: its main purpose is offering specialized and multidisciplinary care to patients diagnosed with fetal malformation, improving diagnostic certainty for fetal malformations, trying to grant early detection of fetal pathologies incompatible with life, as well as the detection of fetal alterations susceptible to treatment in-utero.
  • Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) service: its main purpose is identifying fetuses with growth restriction, in order to provide comprehensive management, trying to determine possible causes for fetal growth restriction. This, to offer optimal management for pregnant women, accomplishing the best possible outcomes, according to primary diagnosis.
  • Institutional service for twin pregnancy: its main purpose is improving perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies. This service addresses perinatal mortality, in order to reduce sequelae associated to complicated monochorionic pregnancies and reduce risks associated with prematurity.
  • Institutional service of minimally invasive surgery: its main purpose is managing gynecological pathologies throughout women’s life cycle, including pregnancy, in order to provide minimally invasive treatment by laparoscopic techniques if indicated, thus decreasing patients’ morbidity.
  • Gynecologic oncology institutional service: its main purpose is promoting and preventing oncological pathologies throughout the patients’ life cycle, with the capacity to perform complex and advanced interventions if needed, including pathologies during pregnancy.
  • Institutional service for contraception in complex adolescents: its main purpose is to provide specialized contraceptive advice for adolescents in gynecological consultation, offering a multidisciplinary management, providing education on contraception and self-care: establishing a doctor-patient trust relationship, clarifying myths and beliefs about menstrual cycles and sexuality, explaining their menstrual cycle. In addition, patients will choose their preferred method of contraception, and assessing their adherence to the selected contraception method.
  • Institutional service for the prevention of unsafe abortion and its complications: its main purpose is to implement sanitary actions under the advice of obstetrician gynecologists for women of childbearing potential, in order to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies, as well as unsafe abortion and its consequences, according to national and international standards.
  • Service for female victims of sexual violence: its main purpose is ensuring comprehensive care for female victims of sexual violence and providing follow-up for each case, addressing them as a priority emergency health event. This approach includes: implementation of medical interventions to eliminate or reduce the risk of conception or sexually transmitted diseases; guarantee of timely advice for decision-making in pregnancy prevention, including the selection of a contraceptive method adapted to the special condition of the victim; Multidisciplinary management from admission for hospitalization to social work is provided, as well as psychology and psychiatry services, if applicable.
  • Institutional contraceptive service for women with high-risk diseases: its main purpose is identifying and intervening health conditions representing a risk to the sexual and reproductive health of women of childbearing potential, while preserving maternal and perinatal health. This approach includes: healthcare for women of childbearing potential with high-risk pathologies, to identify reproductive risk and implementation of interventions that eliminate, modify or reduce the risk of morbidity and maternal and perinatal mortality for women with high-risk pathologies.
  • Institutional service of sexual and reproductive health for girls and adolescents (0 – 19 years old): Its main purpose is offering specialized and multidisciplinary care for girls and young women during gynecological consultation, with a special emphasis on prevention, trying to avoid gynecological disorders and encouraging gynecological routine checks in girls, by establishing a trust relationship with their gynecologist.
