Psychiatry is the branch of medicine concerned with diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental and emotional disorders. It may include evaluations, diagnoses, pharmacological treatments, therapy, and ongoing patient follow-up. Psychiatrists may also collaborate with other health professionals, such as psychologists and social workers, to provide a comprehensive approach to treatment.
The service is aimed at all groups of people with behavioral and learning problems in children, family problems, alcoholism, and psychoactive substance abuse, sexuality problems, anxiety (nervousness), depression and suicidal ideation or impulses, insecurity, and low self-esteem, hallucinations and ideas not congruent with reality, violence and impulsivity, neurocognitive disorders in older adults, people with mental disorders or mental illness.
