During the event, he shared the work done by the institution’s Artificial Intelligence Unit (a pioneer in the southwest of Colombia), aimed at predicting the rate of absences in medical appointments, their impact on patients and hospital management.
The automation process presented is based on performing a statistical analysis that identifies the variables that influence patient absenteeism, and then consolidating the artificial intelligence model to accurately validate this information. To carry out this machine learning process, the institution takes into account variables such as clinical characteristics and socio-demographics, among others.
“We are in the validation phase so that the hospital can implement it. Basically, we have consolidated an artificial intelligence model that allows us to identify potential patients who will not attend the medical appointment (in internal medicine). Although La Fundación Valle del Lili has several strategies to ensure attendance, we were looking for a way to focus or segment them to a specific population,” Ocampo explains.
The implementation of this model aims to achieve personalized predictions, optimization of communication channels, reduction of economic losses and integration with the current strategies managed by the institution. It also aims to reduce absenteeism in the patient population.
